NAGA2000 Black Bee Drones started in 2015 at the Federal University of Itajubá (UNIFEI) with a bold premise: design, build, and program autonomous drones entirely in-house, from the airframe to the artificial intelligence that flies it. That work made the team the first academic autonomous drone group in Latin America — and today, one of Brazil's leading references in intelligent drone technology. Every aircraft the team builds reads its surroundings through computer vision, recognizes objects mid-flight, and makes decisions without a human at the controls, whether it's mapping terrain, locating victims in emergency scenarios, or moving cargo cooperatively with other drones.
NAGA2000 That mix of academic research and hands-on engineering has earned Black Bee Drones results across five editions of IMAV (International Micro Air Vehicle) — held in Germany, China, France, Australia, and Spain, and widely regarded as the world's largest intelligent drone competition. Beyond representing Brazil on the international stage, the team brings that knowledge outside the lab through consulting, workshops, and partnerships such as SAE Brasil's Formula Drone program, training the next generation of engineers and researchers in autonomous aerial robotics.
